Geneviève Godbout has always been drawn to softness — in her colors, her shapes, and the quiet emotions that run through her work.
Originally from Quebec, she studied traditional animation in Montreal and Paris before spending several years in London, where she worked as a character artist for the Walt Disney Company, specializing in the belovedWinnie the Pooh franchise. Her Disney artwork has appeared on products for Cath Kidston, Target, and she helped creating a special line of crystal figurines in collaboration with Swarovski.
In 2013, she returned home to Montreal to begin a new chapter as a freelance illustrator. Since then, she has brought to life numerous picture books including Mary Poppins, a series inspired by L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, the bestselling When Santa Was a Baby, and her own author-illustrator debut, What’s Up, Maloo?
Geneviève works with traditional media, especially soft pastels and colored pencils, which she loves for their rich pigments, velvety textures, and the slow, intentional pace they require. Her illustrations focus as much on mood as on detail, often capturing moments of nostalgia, tenderness, and quiet wonder.
Her artwork has been exhibited at Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles (2022) and at Maison de la culture Maisonneuve in Montreal (2025).
