Natalie grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia reading as many fantastical adventures she could get her hands on. After a myriad of publishing internships and graduating from New York University, she joined HG Literary to assist Carrie Hannigan. She has worked with many of the agency’s bestselling clients across a number of genres, and is now building her own list.
Natalie is primarily interested in fantasy of all kinds, but will read almost any genre of fiction. She loves found family, original magic systems (particularly those that utilize aspects from underrepresented cultures), complex dynamics, retellings (especially fairytales and Greek mythology), and romance. She’s a sucker for any well-executed trope and animal companions. She tends to find books that can make her cry, but not necessarily out of grief or death, irresistible. Across the board, she loves authenticity in the characters and humor, books that make her think broadly and deeply without being didactic, and propulsive plots.
In adult and YA, Natalie is looking for fantasy and romance with compelling characters and strong worldbuilding. She selectively represents science fiction, but no space operas. Kuang, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, Little Thieves by Margaret Owen, Red Rising by Pierce Brown, The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. For middle grade, she loves anything that can make her laugh. Some of her favorites in this category include Warriors by Erin Hunter, Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins, The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, and The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley.
In picture books, she gravitates toward ones that tug on her heartstrings. If you have a good blend of humor and heart, she’d love to see it! For illustrators, her taste centers on vibrant, warm, and atmospheric art with a focus on emotional tenderness, painterly technique, and cinematic radiance, as well as the cute and irresistible.
She is not looking for religious books, literary fiction, nonfiction, horror, novels-in-verse, or graphic novels.
